The Corniche

The seafront boulevard — known as the Corniche Algéroise — runs along the bay below the Casbah and the colonial city. It is a good walking and cycling route with views of the port and the Mediterranean. In the evening the Corniche fills with people strolling, and several small cafes and kiosks open along the waterfront.

The best section is the stretch near the ferry terminal, where the old port warehouses have been converted into a mix of restaurants, a shopping centre, and a cultural complex. The panorama of the white city rising behind the port is the defining view of Algiers and worth making time for at dusk.
