Roman Amphitheatre

The remains of Caesarea's amphitheatre, where gladiatorial games and public spectacles once drew crowds from across the province. Less well preserved than the theatre, but the oval footprint of the arena is still visible, and the scale gives a sense of how significant this city was in the Roman world.

The amphitheatre lies at the edge of the town and is easily reached on foot. Like most of the outdoor ruins in Cherchell, it is not enclosed within a formal site, so access is straightforward. Worth combining with a walk through the town to spot the other fragments of ancient Caesarea embedded in everyday buildings.
