Corniche Jijelienne

The Corniche Jijelienne is the coastal showpiece of the province: rocky forested slopes, small bays, tight curves, and sudden drops to the Mediterranean. It begins almost at Jijel's doorstep and becomes more dramatic as you head west towards El Aouana and Ziama Mansouriah.

Drive it slowly. The best moments are not always the signed viewpoints, but the places where the road opens to a slice of blue water below a cliff, or where pines and cork oaks come right down towards the sea. In summer it can be busy and chaotic; in spring or autumn it is one of Algeria's finest coastal drives.

A story
The corniche is not a single viewpoint but a whole coastal landscape, where the Babors and Petite Kabylie mountains fall almost straight into the Mediterranean. Its beauty has been known locally for generations, but outside Algeria it remains oddly under-sung.
