The beaches around Jijel are the city's main summer draw. They range from urban sand close to the centre to wilder coves along the Corniche Jijelienne and around El Aouana. Expect crowds in July and August, especially on weekends; outside peak season the same coast feels much calmer and more beautiful.
For scenery, head west rather than settling for the first beach in town. The coast towards El Aouana Port, Ras El Afia Lighthouse, and Taza National Park has the better mix of cliffs, forest, and clear water.
