Grottes Merveilleuses

The Grottes Merveilleuses are limestone caves in the cliffs of the Jijel corniche, near Ziama Mansouriah and inside the wider Taza National Park landscape. Their main chamber is known for stalactites, stalagmites, calcite curtains, and the theatrical feeling of stepping straight from a coastal road into an underground hall.

They are one of the area's most popular family stops, so do not expect solitude in summer. Go early if you can, and combine the visit with Taza National Park or a slow drive along the coast. The cave is compact, but the setting above the old road makes it memorable.

A story
The caves were revealed during road works on the old coastal route, a very Jijel kind of discovery: infrastructure blasting through the cliff and suddenly exposing a natural chamber full of calcite formations.
