The most practical way to reach Soyo is by air. TAAG Angola Airlines runs regular flights from Luanda to Soyo Airport (SZA), with the journey taking about an hour. Book well in advance, as capacity is limited and the flights often carry oil industry workers with reserved seats.
By road, Soyo is approximately 500 kilometres from Luanda. The first stretch to Caxito on the N100 is paved, but the remaining road north through Mbanza Kongo and down to Soyo is largely unpaved. Depending on the season and recent rains, the journey can take anywhere from twelve hours in good conditions to several days. A 4WD vehicle is essential. Travelling in convoy is wise. There is no rail service to Soyo.
