Eating Out

Eating options in Soyo are very limited. The town has a small number of restaurants, most attached to guesthouses or catering primarily to oil industry workers. Expect simple Angolan dishes — grilled fish, chicken muamba, funge (a stiff cassava or cornmeal porridge), and beans. Quality is variable and menus change with what is available.

Prices tend to be higher than the food quality justifies, reflecting Soyo's oil-town economy rather than competitive hospitality. Stock up on supplies if you are planning to stay more than a night or two, as options can be thin. The market is your best bet for fresh produce, fruit, and basic provisions.
