Chobe National Park is a large, remote wilderness area with limited internal roads. Getting around requires a 4WD vehicle in most sections.
Chobe Riverfront (near Kasane): The riverfront track is accessible in a standard 4WD. It can be driven as a self-drive day trip from Kasane. Day-trip operators from Victoria Falls (just 90 minutes away) offer guided game drives here.
Savuti (160km south of Kasane): The road from Kasane through Ngwezumba to Savuti is sandy and demanding. High clearance 4WD is essential. The journey takes 4–5 hours in good conditions. Self-drive campers with appropriate equipment can access the public campsite at Savuti. Private camps offer fly-in access.
Linyanti (western section): Accessible by 4WD from Savuti (3–4 hours) or by fly-in. The track is very remote; a second vehicle and GPS are recommended. Private camps in the area have their own airstrips.
Boat safaris: The Chobe River boat safaris operate from Kasane and are the easiest way to see the riverfront ecosystem. No driving required; operators handle all logistics.
The park has no fuel, accommodation facilities (beyond official campsites), or mechanical services inside its boundaries. Carry extra fuel, drinking water, and vehicle spares. Park entry fees and wildlife self-drive permits are paid at the Kasane gate.
