Getting There

Most visitors reach Chobe through one of three entry points:

From Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (90km east): The drive takes about 90 minutes via the Kazungula Bridge crossing. Many Victoria Falls lodges offer day trips to Chobe. This is the fastest and easiest approach for those already at the Falls.

From Maun, Botswana (5 hours by road): The main road north from Maun through Ngami Land to Kasane passes through the park. The journey takes four to five hours on mostly paved road. This is the natural route for those combining Chobe with the Okavango Delta.

By air: Kasane Airport (IATA: BBK) has daily flights from Maun, Johannesburg, and some Victoria Falls connections. The airport handles small and medium aircraft; international charter flights are common. Flying is the most practical option for those on tight time frames or coming from South Africa.

Self-driving from South Africa: The Trans-Kalahari Highway from Johannesburg to Maun, then north, is a long but rewarding overland drive. Allow two days from Johannesburg to Kasane. A 4WD is not essential for the Kasane area but is required for the Savuti and Linyanti sections.

Park entry fees are payable at the gate; wildlife self-drive permits are separate from accommodation. All fees must be paid in Botswana Pula or by card. There is an ATM in Kasane.
