Things to Do

Mochudi's two main draws are the Phuthadikobo Museum — one of the best community museums in southern Africa — and the Matsieng rock carvings, a site of ancient petroglyphs about 15 km to the southwest. Between them, they give a surprisingly complete picture of the region's human history, from the Late Stone Age to the present day.

The village itself is worth a slow walk. Mochudi is a substantial settlement — one of the larger villages in Botswana — with a traditional layout of family compounds, a central kgotla (the community meeting place), and a main street of small shops. It feels genuinely lived-in rather than arranged for tourists.
