Fada N'gourma is the main city of eastern Burkina Faso and the traditional seat of the king of Gulmu. It is a long way from Ouagadougou and is not an easy casual stop, especially while eastern Burkina Faso remains affected by serious security problems. But the city has a real identity: Gulmance culture, a large market, sacred stories, and the savanna country that leads toward the W-Arly-Pendjari protected-area complex.
The strongest nearby sight is Bantia Botanical Garden, south of town, where marked trees, wetland pockets, birds, and a small museum introduce the local savanna. Farther southeast, Pama Reserve belongs to the wider cross-border wildlife landscape shared with Benin and Niger.
Fada is also known for the Festival Dilembu au Gulmu, a harvest festival rooted in Gulmance traditions, with music, dance, poetry, and wrestling. It is the sort of place World66 should know about, even if most travellers will need to wait for the security situation to improve before coming here.
