The Place des Cinéastes is the symbolic heart of FESPACO — a paved square in central Ouaga dominated by a large abstract sculpture representing a film reel. Plaques around the monument honour African film-makers who have won the festival's top prize, the Étalon de Yennenga.
It is not a place to linger, but it makes a useful landmark and is busy with crowds during festival week. Cyclists, motorbikes and pedestrians swirl around it at any time of day.
