When to Go

Ouaga has three seasons. November to February is the cool dry season — days in the high 20s to mid-30s, nights cool enough for a jumper, dust on the horizon from the Harmattan wind. This is the best time to visit. February in odd-numbered years brings FESPACO, the pan-African film festival, and turns the city into the capital of African cinema for a week.

March to May is the hot dry season. Daytime temperatures regularly exceed 40°C and the air is thick with dust. Avoid this period unless you have to come.

June to October is the wet season, with most rain in July and August. The countryside greens up dramatically, the air clears, and afternoon storms cool things down — though the heat and the humidity together can be oppressive.
