Casa Cesaria Evora

Cesaria Evora's former home, on a quiet street in the Ribeira Bote neighbourhood inland from the centre, has been preserved as a small house-museum. The single-storey pink building is exactly as she left it: a modest sitting room, a kitchen, a bedroom hung with her stage dresses, and walls covered in concert posters, gold discs, and family photographs.

A guide will walk you through in Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, or basic French. The visit takes about thirty minutes and gives a touching, unfiltered glimpse of the woman behind the international career — including the famous ashtray on the side table that she chain-smoked beside. Small entrance fee.
