Mindelo's centre is compact and best explored on foot. The colonial-era buildings around the Praca Nova, the fish market on the seafront, and the music venues of Rua de Lisboa can all be combined into a slow half-day walk. Add the hilltop Fortim d'El-Rei for a view, and a beach afternoon at Praia da Laginha, and you have a comfortable full day in the city before catching the ferry to Santo Antao.
