Praia is served by Nelson Mandela International Airport (code: RAI), about 6 kilometres north of the city centre. TAP Air Portugal flies direct from Lisbon; there are also connections from other European cities (Amsterdam, Paris, London) on various carriers. Connections within Cape Verde go through Praia or through the busier airport at Sal island.
From the airport, taxis to the city centre take about 15 minutes and are reasonably priced by European standards. Agree on the price before getting in. There is no bus service between the airport and the Platô.
Inter-island travel within Cape Verde uses either TACV domestic flights or the ferry network. Ferries from Praia go to the other southern islands; for the northern islands (São Vicente, Santo Antão), a flight via São Vicente or a longer ferry is needed.
