Dokki has a good range of restaurants serving the neighbourhood's resident expat and middle-class Egyptian population. The main commercial streets — particularly Mohy El-Deen Abo El-Ezz Street — are lined with everything from Egyptian fuul and ta'miya breakfast spots to Lebanese and international restaurants. Prices are generally lower here than in Zamalek across the river.
For traditional Egyptian food, look for the koshary shops (layers of rice, lentils, pasta, and spiced tomato sauce — the city's unofficial comfort dish) and the ful medames stalls that do brisk business from early morning. For evening meals, the Lebanese and Levantine restaurants along the main streets offer good mezze at reasonable prices.
