Awash Falls is the park's most photographed sight, a compact but forceful drop where the river breaks through a basalt lip and disappears into a gorge. It is not enormous, but in this dry landscape the sound and spray feel startlingly alive.
The viewpoint is usually one of the first stops on a park visit. Morning light is best, and guides can point out birds in the riverine vegetation around the gorge. Keep back from the edges, which are rough, exposed, and not protected to urban safety standards.
