Takoradi Market Circle is the commercial and social hub of the city — a dense, circular open-air market where traders sell everything from fresh fish and tropical fruit to second-hand clothes, electronic parts, and traditional cloth. The noise and energy here are considerable at any hour of the day; the smell of smoked fish, frying kelewele (spiced fried plantain), and woodsmoke is distinctive.
It is a working market for locals, not a tourist attraction, which makes it more interesting. The outer ring roads are choked with trotro minibuses and shared taxis heading in every direction along the coast. If you want to understand the rhythms of everyday life in the Western Region, spend an hour here before moving on. The surrounding streets towards the harbour are also worth wandering — the old colonial buildings are weathered but still characterful.
