Treichville is Abidjan's most energetic neighbourhood — a dense, market-driven commune on a peninsula south of Le Plateau, separated from it by the Ébrié Lagoon. Where Le Plateau has banks and government buildings, Treichville has the fish market, textile vendors, music bars, and the bustle of everyday Abidjan life.
The Treichville fish market, on the lagoon waterfront, is one of the largest in West Africa. Early morning is best — the catches arrive from the lagoon and the ocean, and the trading is intense and vivid. Boulevard Delafosse is the main artery for bars and live music in the evening. This is where Ivorian nightlife has its roots, and where Zouglou, the Ivorian pop music genre, developed in the 1990s.
