Mount Tonkoui

At 1,189 m, the second highest peak in Ivory Coast

Roughly 30 km south of Gouessesso as the crow flies, Mount Tonkoui is the second highest peak in Ivory Coast at 1,189 metres. A rough track climbs almost to the top, where a meteorological station and a viewpoint look out over the rolling hills of the western highlands. On clear days you can see across the border into Guinea and Liberia.

The climate at the summit is noticeably cooler than the surrounding plains, and the morning mist that often shrouds the peak gives the western Yacouba region its other name — the 'land of clouds.' Best visited dry season (November to April). Hiring a driver from Man is the simplest way to get there; the road becomes impassable after heavy rain.
