Man

Western Ivory Coast town backed by lush green hills, waterfalls, sacred forest, and mountain villages

Man itself is not a particularly beautiful town, but the lush green hills surrounding it make it one of the more rewarding destinations in western Ivory Coast.

The main attractions lie outside of town, but the market in town is worth your while — a colorful, lively place where you can find good buys, especially carvings and fabrics.

Around Man the best places to visit are the Cascade, a waterfall in a bamboo forest 5 km west of town; Mount Tonkoui, the second highest peak in the country just 20 km further on the same road, from where you can see as far as Liberia on a clear day; and the Dent de Man, a steep tooth-shaped mountain 15 km north-east of town with great hiking opportunities. A number of local villages such as Biankouma, Gouessesso, Tieni-Siabli, and Fakobly are also worth visiting for a taste of rural life in the region.
