Grand-Bassam has a modest but decent eating scene, concentrated around the beach and the edges of the historic quarter. Grilled fish is the thing to eat here — fresh from the lagoon, cooked over charcoal, and served with attiéké (fermented cassava couscous), which is the staple accompaniment throughout coastal Côte d'Ivoire.
The beach bars along the Atlantic shore serve grilled fish, grilled chicken, and cold beers through the afternoon and into the evening. On weekends they operate at full capacity; during the week service slows down considerably but food is still available. Prices are reasonable by Ivorian standards.
