Mombasa's drinking life splits between the noisy open-air bars of the island and the polished hotel terraces of the North Coast. Around Moi Avenue and Mnazi Moja Road, places like Casablanca are the local downtown classic — cold Tuskers, plastic chairs, and a dance floor by midnight. The North Coast hotels (Bamburi, Nyali) have proper cocktail bars and beachfront terraces. For a daytime espresso break, head to one of the Nyali coffee houses such as Cafe Mocha. Tropical rain stops nothing — most bars are open to the air anyway.
