Things to do

Mombasa rewards a slow wander as much as a tick-list. Fort Jesus and the alleys of Mombasa Old Town below it are the obvious starting point — a Portuguese fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a working Swahili-Arab quarter still trading in spices and carved wooden doors. The Likoni Ferry crossing is its own experience, and the Mombasa Tusks on Moi Avenue are the city's announcement of itself. Out on the mainland, Haller Park and Mamba Village in Nyali are the family circuit, and the Bombolulu Workshops are the place to actually meet the people making the souvenirs.
