Tudor Creek

Mangrove-lined tidal creek and the dhow harbour of Mombasa

Tudor Creek is the long, mangrove-lined tidal inlet on the north and east side of Mombasa Island — separating the old town from the mainland and giving the dhow trade its harbour. From the bastion of Fort Jesus the view down the creek takes in dozens of working dhows, fishing boats, and the occasional cargo ship. The classic experience is a sunset dhow cruise, often combined with a Swahili dinner — touristy, but the right way to spend an evening on the East African coast.
