From Mombasa, take the Likoni ferry from the southern end of the island — ferries run continuously and are free for foot passengers, a small fee for vehicles. From Likoni, matatus run south along the coast road to Ukunda (the main town near Diani) and continue toward Shimoni. The ferry crossing takes about five minutes, but queuing can add time during peak hours.
Diani Beach also has its own airstrip (Ukunda Airport), with scheduled flights connecting to Nairobi's Wilson Airport and Mombasa's Moi International Airport. Several safari operators run charter flights directly from Diani to the Masai Mara and other wildlife destinations, making it easy to combine a beach and safari holiday without returning to Nairobi.
