Haua Fteah

Haua Fteah is a large karst cave east of Susa and Apollonia. It is not part of the ancient city, but it belongs naturally on a visit to this coast because it reveals a much older human story than the Greek and Byzantine ruins.

The cave has produced evidence for long prehistoric occupation in Cyrenaica. Access should be arranged locally, and visitors should treat the site as fragile archaeology rather than an adventure playground.

A story
Haua Fteah preserves one of North Africa's longest archaeological sequences, with evidence of human use stretching across tens of thousands of years. It turns a short coastal detour into a journey far deeper than Greek Cyrenaica.
