The Friday Mosque — also known as the Jami' Mosque or Great Mosque of Tripoli — was founded by Othman Ra'is in 1670 during the Ottoman period. It stands in the heart of the old medina and remains one of the most significant Islamic monuments in Libya. The mosque's courtyard, colonnaded arcades, and minaret follow the North African Ottoman style, with local craftwork visible in the tile-work and carved stonework.
Non-Muslim visitors have historically been permitted to view the exterior and, at appropriate times, the courtyard — though access depends on current local conditions. Visit in the morning when the medina is quiet and the light is best.
