Mahajanga's beaches are more about local life and sunsets than postcard isolation. Grand Pavois is the easiest sandy escape north of the city, while Amborovy has a looser holiday feel near the airport road. Ask locally about tides and swimming conditions before going in; the coast here is broad, warm, and sometimes muddy rather than reef-clear.
