Djenné is most easily reached from Mopti (about 130 km) or from Bamako (about 575 km via Ségou). Transport is more frequent on Mondays — market day — when bush taxis and minibuses run to and from Mopti. On other days you may need to arrange private transport or wait for a shared vehicle. The road from the main highway crosses a seasonal floodplain that can be impassable during the rainy season (July to October).
