Kita's appeal lies in its setting and its people, not in monuments. The town is overlooked by Kita-Kourou, a great granite inselberg considered sacred by the Malinké, and crowned by the Sacred Heart Cathedral, the most important Catholic pilgrimage site in Mali. The weekly market is the main event of the social week, drawing farmers from the surrounding hills with millet, peanuts, mangoes, and livestock.
