The Dadès Gorge is the reason most visitors stop in Boumalne, and a half-day or full-day drive up the gorge is the essential excursion. Beyond that, the Tagdilt Track south of town is famous among birdwatchers, and trekkers use Boumalne as a base for multi-day walks into the volcanic Jbel Saghro. The town itself takes about an hour to wander.
