The grand colonial square at the centre of town, surrounded by Mauresque buildings — a French art deco–Moorish hybrid invented in 1920s Casablanca. The Prefecture, the Wilaya, and the Palace of Justice around the square all date from the French Protectorate. The fountain at the centre lights up in the evenings.
