Casablanca is not the place to buy traditional Moroccan handicrafts at their finest — Fes and Marrakesh do that better — but it has its own shopping identity.
The Habous Quarter (New Medina) has the most concentrated selection of crafts: babouches, pottery, brassware, textiles, and djellabas in traditional workshops with somewhat lower pressure than the imperial city souks. The bookshops here also have good selections of French and Arabic titles.
Morocco Mall in Ain Diab and Twin Center on Boulevard Zerktouni are the city's main modern shopping centres, with international brands and a broad range of goods. The malls are popular with Casablancans and give a sense of the city's contemporary commercial life.
For everyday shopping, the Central Market (Marché Central) near the port has excellent fresh food — particularly fish and produce — and is the best food market in the city.
