British Saloon

Bar in a former British consulate — one of the most atmospheric in Fez

The British Saloon occupies what was once the British consulate in the Ville Nouvelle, and the building's former life gives it more character than most Moroccan bar interiors. Dark wood, old photographs, a long bar — it is a proper drinking place with a hint of colonial-era atmosphere, neither a tourist trap nor a grim local dive. Beer and spirits are both available; the Moroccan wines hold up.

It is the kind of place that becomes a regular stop once you know it exists. The clientele is mixed — local businessmen, expats, the occasional traveller. An unmarked entrance on a Ville Nouvelle sidestreet means you have to ask where it is, which is part of the experience. Evening only; closes late by Fez standards.
