Ouarzazate itself is small enough to walk. Avenue Mohammed V runs east-west through the centre and most hotels, restaurants, and the CTM bus station are within a 15-minute walk of each other. The Kasbah Taourirt is at the eastern end of the avenue, a 20-minute walk from the main square.
For Atlas Film Studios (5 km west of centre) and other sights outside the centre, the most practical option is a petit taxi — the small orange taxis that run on a meter within the town boundaries. Grands taxis can be chartered by the day for longer excursions.
Hiring a car from the airport or from agencies on Avenue Mohammed V opens up the region considerably. Ait Benhaddou, the Draa Valley, and the gorges all require private transport unless you join an organised tour. Agencies in Ouarzazate offer day-trip circuits that typically combine Ait Benhaddou with Kasbah Tifoultoute and the Draa Valley, or head east toward the Dades Gorge.
Bicycles and motorbikes can be hired from a few shops in town, and the flat road south toward the Draa Valley is well-suited to cycling if the heat allows. The road north over the Tizi n'Tichka to Marrakech is a dramatic but demanding ride best suited to experienced cyclists.
