Berber Souk

Unhurried medina market with saffron, silver, and argan oil

Taroudant has two connected souks inside the medina — the Arab souk and the Berber souk — and both feel like working markets rather than tourist theatre. The Berber souk is the more interesting of the two: silver jewelry, locally-made leather sandals, saffron from the Souss valley, and argan oil in various forms. Prices are lower here than in Marrakesh or Agadir, and the hard-sell is considerably more relaxed.

Thursday and Sunday are the big market days, when people come in from the surrounding villages and the density and variety of goods increases noticeably. Arrive in the morning.
