Sandboarding and Quad Biking

Hurtle down Namib dune faces on a board or a quad bike

The dunes immediately south of Swakopmund are among the most accessible in the Namib, and every adventure operator in town runs trips into them. Sandboarding — either standing (harder) or lying flat on a board (faster, easier, more popular) — is the signature activity: you are towed up the dune face and then hurtle down the slip face at speed. Quad biking covers more ground and lets you explore the dune valleys. Book through any of the adventure operators on Sam Nujoma Avenue; half-day trips are the standard format. The dunes are most photogenic in the morning light.
