For a small capital Windhoek has a surprisingly good food scene, anchored by Namibia's love of meat. Game is everywhere on menus: kudu, oryx, springbok, ostrich, even crocodile. Portions are large, prices are reasonable, and almost everything pairs well with a Windhoek Lager.
Independence Avenue and the Klein Windhoek suburb hold most of the restaurants worth seeking out. A few Italian, Portuguese, and Chinese places serve as alternatives to the steak-and-game default. Many places close on Sundays.
