MKO Abiola Stadium

Ogun State's main football and athletics stadium

The MKO Abiola Stadium is a 28,000-seat multi-purpose stadium on the south side of Abeokuta, named for the Yoruba politician and businessman Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, who won Nigeria's 1993 presidential election only to have it annulled by the military and who died in detention five years later. Abiola was born in Abeokuta and his memory is strong in the city.

The stadium is the home ground of Ogun United and hosts Nigerian football league fixtures, athletics meets, and occasional concerts. Tickets are cheap and easy to buy on the day. The stadium and surrounding park are also a popular Sunday afternoon spot for joggers and families.
