Bonny Island is not a casual beach escape from Port Harcourt. It is a working Niger Delta island, reached by water, where the old Kingdom of Bonny, Atlantic fishing villages, mangrove forest, and heavy oil and gas infrastructure all sit close together.
That mix gives Bonny more identity than most delta service towns. The kingdom was a major trading state, first in fish, salt, palm products, and later in the Atlantic trade, while modern Bonny is known for Bonny Light crude and one of Nigeria's largest LNG complexes. For travellers, the strongest reason to come is Finima Nature Park, backed up by Finima Beach and the boat journey through the delta channels.
Go with local advice, not a loose plan. Transport, weather, and security conditions can change, and the island rewards visitors who arrange contacts before leaving Port Harcourt.
