Dala Hill rises about 50 metres above the surrounding city in the Dala district, a volcanic outcrop that has been at the heart of Kano's mythology since the city's founding. From the summit there are sweeping views across the rooftops of old Kano — the terracotta of mud-brick compounds, the silver glint of the Great Mosque's minaret, and the sprawl of the modern city fading into the Sahel haze beyond.
The hill is a short taxi ride from the Old City and an easy climb on a path that winds up between rocks scattered with prayer beads left by visitors. The Hausa consider it sacred ground, and local people come to pray here — it is worth treating the site with corresponding respect. There is no entrance fee and no formal infrastructure, but the views are among the best in the city.
