Gidan Dan Hausa Museum and Kano State Cultural Centre

Colonial-era Hausa cultural centre tied to early Western education in northern Nigeria

Gidan Dan Hausa is a historic house and cultural centre associated with Hanns Vischer, the colonial education officer nicknamed Dan Hausa for his fluency and interest in Hausa culture. In a city where the older Hausa landmarks rightly dominate, this site adds the more complicated colonial and educational chapter.

The museum side is smaller than Gidan Makama, so do not rank it in the same class. It is still worth an hour if you are interested in Kano's architecture, language, and school history, especially with a guide who can explain how the building fits into the city's 20th-century changes.
