Benin City, about 90 km northwest, is the most rewarding excursion from Warri. As the historical capital of the Benin Kingdom, it has the Benin City National Museum with an outstanding collection of bronze and ivory court art, and the Oba's Palace at the centre of the old city. The road is paved and the drive takes about 90 minutes. Abraka (30 km north) makes an easy half-day trip for the Ethiope River beach and its natural springs. Onitsha, a major river port on the Niger, is about 130 km east and has one of the largest markets in West Africa.
