Eating Out

The local cuisine of Warri and the Delta State is among the most flavour-forward in Nigeria. Banga soup — made from palm nut cream with dry fish, stockfish, crayfish, and the distinctive obeletete spice — is the signature dish. Served with starch (a gelatinous cassava preparation unique to Delta State) or pounded yam. Suya (grilled spiced meat skewers) is available from roadside vendors in the evenings. The Efferun Market and Uwie area have the best concentration of cheap market food with authentic local flavour. Palm wine — tapped from oil palms and drunk fresh — is the traditional drink.
