Saly Beach

The beach at Saly is the whole point of being here — a wide, pale-sand strip running for several kilometres along the Atlantic coast, backed by gardens of casuarina and bougainvillea. The water is warm year-round and the wave height is manageable, making it comfortable for casual swimming. The current is manageable close to shore but can be stronger further out.

The beach is divided informally into sections corresponding to the hotel zones. The southern end near the Mbour road is generally quieter; the central area has the most activity, including beach vendors, watersports operators, and horses for hire. In the early morning before the vendors arrive, the beach is peaceful and beautiful.

A story
Saly was barely a village before tourism arrived in the 1970s — it was chosen for development because the beach here is unusually wide and sheltered compared to the rest of the Petite Côte. The resort now stretches several kilometres, yet the beach remains uncrowded outside the peak European winter season.
