Hargeisa rewards visitors who are comfortable improvising. Most of the city's interest lies in its markets, its war memorial, and the day trip to Laas Geel. The city has been substantially rebuilt since the late 1980s, but the conflict is still present in the landscape — in the memorial, in the museum, and in the conversations you will have with people old enough to remember.
