Half-Collared Kingfisher Trail

Forest hike to a waterfall on the Touw River

A 7-kilometre return trail along the wooded banks of the Touw River, starting from the Ebb and Flow rest camp and ending at a small waterfall. The path is well marked and crosses several wooden boardwalks where the ground is boggy. The forest is full of yellowwoods, stinkwoods and milkwoods, and on a quiet morning you may spot the kingfisher the trail is named for, perching on overhanging branches.

The hike takes around two hours each way at a relaxed pace. The waterfall has a swimming pool at the base — cold, dark, and refreshing in summer. Bring a hiking permit if you're not staying at Ebb and Flow; permits are sold at the SANParks office at the camp gate.
