Eating Out

Dodoma's restaurant scene is modest. Most places serve a mix of Tanzanian staples — ugali, nyama choma (grilled meat), fried fish, pilau rice — alongside curries and a few Western dishes for the parliamentary and aid-worker crowd. Hotel restaurants tend to be the most reliable for sit-down meals; the streets around the bus stand and the central market are best for cheap, quick eats.

For something distinctively Dodoma, look out for Gogo food at the smaller local restaurants — stews of beans and greens, slow-cooked goat, and the local sweet wine to wash it down.
